How We Replace a Roof in One Day — Hour by Hour

Good Roofing crew replacing a roof in a single day

One of the first things clients ask is “how long will my house be a construction site?” For most homes, our answer is: one day. Our clients regularly mention it in reviews — crew at 6:30 a.m., new roof by dinner. Here's how that actually works without cutting corners.

6:30 a.m. — Protection first

The crew arrives and turns your yard into a protected work zone: tarps over landscaping and AC units, plywood over windows where needed, a catch system along the eaves. If you have pets that use the yard, this is when we agree on the plan for the day.

7:00 a.m. — Tear-off, down to the deck

We strip everything: old shingles, old underlayment, old flashing. No roofing over the old layer, ever — a new roof on a bad deck is a warranty dispute waiting to happen. Exposed decking gets inspected board by board, and anything soft or rotten is replaced on the spot.

Midday — The six-layer system goes on

Leak barriers in the valleys and penetrations, synthetic underlayment across the deck, starter strips at the edges, shingles, ventilation, and hip-and-ridge caps. Six layers, in order, each one doing a specific job. This is the same system you can explore layer by layer on our roofing page.

Late afternoon — The cleanup you'll actually notice

Magnetic sweepers cross your yard and driveway for nails — multiple passes. Debris goes in the trailer, not your garbage cans. The goal is simple: the only evidence we were there should be the roof.

Why one day matters

  • Your home is exposed to weather for hours, not days
  • One day of noise and driveway disruption instead of a week
  • A focused crew finishing a job start-to-finish makes fewer handoff mistakes

Bigger or more complex roofs (steep pitches, tile, copper work) can take longer — and we'll tell you that upfront. Want to know what your roof would take? Free inspection: (800) 698-3888.
